Who is invited to attend the summit?
Penn State faculty, staff, administrators, graduate students, undergraduate students, and alumni who share a commitment to first-generation student success.
How do I register for the summit?
Registration went live on April 1.
What will be the format of the summit?
The summit will take place Wednesday, May 4 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on the virtual platform called Whova. There will be engagement opportunities that extend beyond 4pm.
What presentation topics will I hear about at the Summit?
The summit will include a variety of topics that may include:
- Barriers for First-Generation Students (ex: academic, social, financial)
- Resources and Support (ex: current impactful Penn State programs)
- Mentoring and Advising (ex: best practices for first-gen students)
- Student Experiences (ex: first-gen stories, panels, case studies, sense of belonging)
- Data Insights and Assessment (ex: data trends, surveys)
- Intersectionality of Identities (ex: DEI programs and best practices)
Will there be a call for proposals?
Yes, the Penn State community is welcome to submit proposals for the Summit. The submissions deadlines are as follows:
Priority proposal submission deadline: Wed., March 23
Final proposal submission deadline: Mon., March 28
How do I propose a presentation?
The deadlines to submit a presentation proposal have now passed. If you missed the window, we encourage you to consider submitting next year.
What is the registration free for this event?
The First-gen Student Support Summit is free and open to all Penn State community members.

The Summit agenda is posted to event's Whova site and can also be found here.
