College is a big leap — so why not start with a running start? The Learning Edge Academic Program (LEAP) helps first-year students build confidence, make friends, and get ahead before fall semester even begins.
In LEAP, you’ll take two classes with the same group of students (your “Pride”), live together in the residence halls, and get support from a Peer Success Coach who’s been where you are. It all happens during Summer Session II at University Park — giving you a smaller, more personal start to your Penn State journey.
How does LEAP help you succeed?
LEAP is more than just summer classes—it’s your early advantage at Penn State.
-
Small, linked courses mean you won’t be navigating college alone. You’ll learn alongside the same group of students (your Pride), build relationships with your professors, and form natural study groups that help you stay on track.
-
LEAP housing keeps things simple and supportive. You’ll live in the same residence hall as your Pride, surrounded by students in similar majors. It’s a built-in community where learning continues beyond the classroom.
-
Monday Meetups for Success happen weekly in your residence hall with your Peer Success Coaches (PSCs). These informal, practical sessions cover essential college success skills like time management, organization, using campus resources, getting involved, and setting goals for the semester ahead.
Students who show up to Meetups leave with better habits, stronger confidence, and a clear path forward. And the best part? Your PSC will continue to be a resource after LEAP ends—because support doesn’t stop when summer does.
